Teeth Whitening
Brighten Your Smile
Professional whitening treatments offer a safe and effective way to reduce surface stains and brighten the appearance of your teeth.
The whitening solution we use contains active ingredients such as hydrogen peroxide and carbamide peroxide. When applied to your teeth, these ingredients release oxygen, which interacts with the enamel to help break down stains, creating a whitening effect.
We generally recommend that patients be at least 16 years old before starting professional whitening treatment. If you have any questions about the process or whether it’s right for you, please don’t hesitate to contact our team.
Somerset Dental Group is proud to offer at-home teeth whitening options that allow you to safely enhance your smile on your own schedule.
How At-Home Teeth Whitening Works
If you decide to try at-home teeth whitening, we’ll start by taking impressions of your teeth to create your custom-fitted whitening tray.
At your follow-up visit, you’ll receive your trays along with the whitening gel and clear, step-by-step instructions on how to use them.
Using the tray is simple: apply the gel as directed and wear it over your teeth, typically for one to two hours each day, until you achieve your desired level of brightness.
The Results
Most patients start to see results within 10 to 14 days, with noticeable changes in tooth colour typically occurring over four to six weeks.
Keep in mind that whitening may be less effective on teeth with heavier or deeper stains. In these cases, other cosmetic or restorative options, such as dental crowns, may be recommended to help improve your smile.
Why Choose At-Home Whitening?
Many people choose to whiten their teeth with an at-home whitening kit from their dentist because it combines the convenience of whitening on your own schedule with the safety and effectiveness of professional care.
These kits use professional-strength whitening gel, which is usually more effective than over-the-counter options.
Your dentist provides custom-fit trays that keep the gel in close contact with your teeth while protecting your gums, helping to reduce irritation and improve results.
You’ll also receive clear instructions and the option for your dentist to monitor your progress and address any sensitivity.
Because the teeth whitening happens gradually over the course of a week or two, you can control how bright you want your smile to be, and the results often last longer than store-bought alternatives.
