Tooth Extractions

In some situations, a tooth may be too damaged to be preserved. When this happens, our dental team in Surrey can perform tooth extractions to support overall oral health.

Helping You Navigate Extractions

Having a tooth removed isn’t something anyone looks forward to. That’s why at Somerset Dental Group in Surrey, we focus on solutions that protect your natural teeth whenever possible.

However, there are situations where a tooth may cause pain, infection, or damage if left untreated. In these cases, removing the tooth, or sometimes multiple teeth, can help relieve discomfort and support overall oral health.

If a dental extraction is necessary, our team will take care to make the procedure is as comfortable as possible.

A local anesthetic is provided to ensure you do not feel pain during the removal, and we will guide you through every step of the process to help you feel relaxed and supported. Our team will then provide aftercare instructions, and monitor your healing as needed.

We will also discuss restorations with you, so that your smile can be restored after the tooth has been removed.

Wisdom Teeth Removal

Many people between the ages of 17 and 25 develop wisdom teeth, also known as third molars. For some, these teeth don’t fully come in or may start to crowd other teeth, which can sometimes lead to dental issues.

What to Expect During the Procedure

Preserving your natural teeth is always our first priority, but there are times when removing a tooth is the healthiest option, such as when it’s severely decayed, damaged, or causing pain or infection.

If an extraction is recommended, our team will explain why and guide you through the procedure, including your restoration options, so you feel informed and comfortable throughout the whole process.

During the procedure, the area will be fully numbed with local anesthesia, and the tooth will be carefully removed from the socket with dental tools. Depending on the extraction, your dentist may need to stitch up the gums afterward.

If needed, we can also discuss options for replacing the tooth, such as bridges or dentures, to help maintain your bite and overall oral function. Our goal is to guide you through the entire process in a way that is clear, comfortable, and supportive.

Healing After Tooth Extractions

After a tooth extraction, following proper care can help make your recovery as smooth and comfortable as possible.

Right after the procedure, you’ll be asked to bite down on gauze for about an hour, keep your head elevated, and take it easy to help control any initial bleeding or swelling.

For the first day or two, stick to soft foods and try to chew on the opposite side of the extraction site. Continue brushing your teeth gently, but take care to avoid the area until it begins to heal. After about 48 hours, you can start rinsing with warm salt water to help keep the area clean.

Some mild swelling, tenderness, or stiffness is normal in the early stages. If you notice worsening pain, heavy bleeding, or any signs of infection, contact our office. Our team is here to support you and make sure your recovery goes as smoothly as possible.
