Children's Dental Services
When should children have their first visit to the dentist?
Most babies' first teeth will typically start to come in when they are between four and ten months old. Once that first tooth appears, it’s a good idea to bring them in for their first dental checkup.
During this initial visit, we can examine their teeth and gums, identify any potential concerns, and, if needed, create a plan to monitor or address them. After that, children should have a professional dental exam and cleaning about every six months.
Every child is unique, so some may need more frequent visits, particularly if they have specific oral health concerns. Your dentist will work with you to create an appointment schedule that meets your child’s individual needs.
Dental Care With Your Kids in Mind
A child’s experiences at the dentist can shape how they feel about oral health for years to come. Early visits help them learn good habits and feel confident caring for their smiles. That’s why our team at Somerset Dental Group is committed to making every visit as comfortable and positive for your child as possible.
Dental Services for Children
With professional cleanings and exams, children can learn to take care of their smiles and maintain good oral health on their own.
At Somerset Dental Group, we offer the following dental services to help support your child's oral health:
- Regular cleanings and examinations
- Advice for children's dental hygiene routines
- Protective sealants
- Fluoride treatments
These elements work together to create a good foundation for dental health that will continue into adulthood.
Oral Hygiene & Prevention
Tooth decay can become a concern as soon as your child’s teeth start coming in. For our youngest patients, our primary focus is on preventing cavities and maintaining healthy smiles.
Brushing & Flossing
Just like adult teeth, baby teeth should be brushed twice a day. You can start brushing your child’s teeth as soon as the first ones appear.
Once your child has two teeth that touch, it’s important to begin flossing between them once a day to help keep their teeth and gums healthy.
